Heritage Reimagined at Albion Works

Just moments away from Bolton town centre stands Albion Court, formerly known as Albion Works - a symbol of the town's industrial past transformed into contemporary homes by DBR Builders (NW) Ltd in 2019.

Albion Court was once an engineering works, part of Bolton's rich industrial heritage. Originally built circa. 1840's as the Victoria Mill, this red brick building was a cotton spinning mill during the Industrial Revolution. Over time, the mill changed, becoming Albion Engineering Works before its recent transformation into Albion Court under our development. DBR Builders (NW) Ltd took on the challenge of converting the old mill into residential spaces, which was approved in March 2019 by Bolton Council, which seen the project march on to completion in December, 2020.

When starting the renovation process, all floors were empty and completely devoid of partition walls dividing the space. The team had a clear vision to turn things around in convenient fashion, which meant changes to the original plan, like adding a communal corridor for easy access to the bin store.

Groundworks were also rolled out in the yard of the building, which was previously occupied by ACM Scaffolding Limited before our acquisition. The space was used to create 32 new parking spaces, accessible from Fletcher Street, for the convenience of Albion residents.

During the drylining process, the walls were built to define each apartment, but made to ensure we retained the building's character. This renovation was a big step in bringing Albion Court back to life as a cosy modern living space.

Inside the apartments, simplicity meets comfort. Bedrooms are furnished with newly manufactured beds, wardrobes, soft lighting against light grey walls and wood laminate flooring to create a greater aesthetic.

The kitchen, dining, and living areas feature modern grey cabinets and splashbacks, blending seamlessly with the laminate and room furniture.

Situated less than half a mile from Bolton train station and bus interchange, Albion Court offers close links to transportation, the town centre and all its activities, ensuring residents easy access to entertainment and leisure. Nearby, Vue Bolton cinema offers the latest movies, while the Octagon Theatre hosts a diverse range of live performances. Residents can explore the vibrant dining scene with multiple restaurants, cafes, and bars offering a wide choice of cuisines. Finally, for sports enthusiasts, there are nearby gyms, parks, and recreational facilities such as Queens Park and Bolton One Leisure Centre.

This particular transformation on Albion Works is a tribute to Bolton's industrial past, showcasing how old structures can once again be repurposed for modern living without taking too much away from its history.
